Our Family, Our Tradition
Paletas were first invented in the 1940s by Ignacio Alcázar in Tocumbo, Michoacán, the birthplace of Mexico’s paletero tradition. Carrying that same last name, Ubaldo Alcázar took over his family’s “La Michoacana” in Jalos, Jalisco, in the 1980s, continuing a trade that runs deep in his family.
He ran the shop until the 1990s, when he married Marisa, sold the business, and returned to his hometown of Cotija, Michoacán. Together they opened their panadería in Los Reyes, where Ubaldo made the pan dulce and cakes and Marisa decorated them.
A New Legacy in california
By the mid-1990s they immigrated to the U.S., where they saw the need for authentic Mexican ice cream, paletas, and pan dulce. With hard work and passion, they started over. In 2004, they began building a new shop in Vallejo, California, and by 2006 opened La Michoacana Vallejo. today We are proud and excited to continue growing by expanding La Michoacana into Vacaville, California. We look forward to bringing our family recipes, authentic Mexican flavors, made-from-scratch ice cream, paletas, bakery items, tortas, aguas frescas, and fresh desserts to a whole new community while continuing the tradition and passion that started generations ago in Mexico.
The Hands Behind the Tradition
The Alcázar family has been preserving the authentic taste of Michoacán for generations. Today, Ubaldo and Marisa continue that legacy here in California.
